The Beginner Ski event will provide you with an introduction to the Eagle Cliff trail system and basic cross-country ski techniques as well as an opportunity to practice your kick and glide skills.
This page contains information to help you plan for the event. Be sure to read through the entire page and sign the Release & Liability Waiver which is required to participate and will serve as your confirmation of attendence.
Saturday February 7th, 2026
9:45 am—2:00 pm
Arrive no later than 9:45 am. Be early. The event will start on time so we can stick to the event schedule.
If you need to rent equipment, Edge Sports near Lead, SD and Rapid City Scheels offer cross-country ski rental packages. Renting the day before the event is recommended so you have what you need and can be at the trailhead on time.
If metal edges are a rental option, we recommend that you go that route.
Event check-in is at the Bratwurst Trailhead. Look for the check-in vehicle identified by a snowman on top, and report there to start the day.

Your electronic signature on the Release and Liability Waiver will serve as confirmation that you will be participating in the event. Note that a signature is required for each event participant.

We want you to have a very positive experience, and your ski equipment is a key element for making this happen. At past events, some participants have arrived with boots that did not match the bindings on their skis. Don't start the day this way! Please review the Skiing Tips page of the ECSA website, and watch the videos to make sure you have what you need to ensure a great day on the trails. If you have any questions about equipment, please contact us.
